World Suicide Prevention Day

Wednesday the 10th of September marks World Suicide Prevention Day, a day dedicated to remembering those lost to suicide and raising awareness of suicide prevention.

From 2024 to 2026 the theme is focusing on ‘changing the narrative on suicide’ to highlight the importance of creating conversations about suicide to reduce the stigma. Shifting from a culture of silence and stigma, to one of openness, understanding, and support.

According to Samaritans every 90 minutes someone in the UK dies by suicide which is why it is vital to take proactive action as interrupting someone’s thoughts through small actions or conversations can help to save someone’s life.

In this guide we will mark Suicide Prevention Day by exploring the importance of raising the awareness of suicide as well as discussing the constructive ways that employers can help to prevent suicides.
